James has worked closely with top universities, international space organizations, and NASA space facilities to advance STEM education on four continents and to motivate young people in close to twenty nations. Many of his past pupils have gone on to succeed in their careers as professors, company entrepreneurs, and professionals.

In 2005, James co-founded the Houston Association for Space and Science Education and set up its famed "HASSE Space School." By linking them with astronauts, scientists, and engineers at space and academic institutions, the initiative offers humanities and science students cutting-edge learning experiences, allowing them to pursue their interests and objectives.
